For whoever runs it

Run a security session with your team

The two talk-through drills run over a lunch hour, no projector needed. They are known in the security field as tabletop exercises (TTX). Here is how to run one in about thirty minutes, a wrap-up checklist, and a completion record you can print.

The 30-minute plan

0 to 3 minSet the scene. Read the opening aloud. Everyone privately rates "how ready are we, one to five" and writes it down.
3 to 25 minWork the five injects (the scenario's twists), about four minutes each. Read the inject aloud, let the group answer the Discuss questions, and resist jumping to the "right" answer.
25 to 30 minWrap up. Walk the lessons together, re-rate one to five, and agree the single first thing to fix this week.

Keep it a conversation, not a test. There are no wrong answers in the discussion; the goal is that everyone leaves knowing the first three steps.

Wrap-up checklist

At the end, tick what your team could genuinely do. Anything unticked is your next thing to work on.

  • We named the warning signs before acting.
  • We knew who decides and who to tell.
  • We knew how to reach help (the national cyber authority, an IT person, the bank).
  • We agreed one concrete thing to fix this week.
  • Our confidence went up from the start to the end.
